Evaperator coil repair questions

I've also posted this in r/HVAC not sure if this belongs here.

Please pardon my ignorance on HVAC as I'm just a home owner with some questions. Long story shortened is my home air hasn't been getting cold. I had my home warranty program send someone out. Ultimately they found the issue to be the evaporator coil and the warranty approved the fix.

Now in order to find this information out the company doing the replacement had to drain my freon (which according to them I had 6lbs out of 8lbs) and do the leak search to find the issue. Now they are telling me when they replace the evaporator coil I will have to fill the freon back up which the warranty company doesn't cover and I have to pay for all 8lbs which is going to be around $930 they said.

My main concern is am I being stolen from essentially? When they drained the original freon what did they do with it, just keep it? Can they not fill it up with the 6lbs they took and charge me for the 2lbs that leaked out? Just wanting to make sure I'm not getting bamboozled here. Thanks for any help you provide.
