Transporting compressor on checked luggage

Hi all. I must buy a new compressor for my LG refrigerator but I must bring it on a plane from the US because they don't sell it here where I am. I've read several horror stories about transporting a refrigerator on its side, but does it apply to the compressor alone in its original packaging? If I simply let it sit upright for 24hrs upon arrival, will it work just fine?

Also, if I choose to bring it on my carry-on, do you think the airline will have any issues with it?
