Hello! We purchased this mini-cooler https://www.tramontina-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/WEB_BR.80901-502.pdf for our office conference room and everything in it has been tainted by a chemical smell.
We contacted the manufacturer to complain. They seemed to know what we were having an issue with when we told them there was an odd smell that was not going away even after a month of use and wiping down the new unit. They said the issue had something to do with the seal on the door? Their solution for our issue was to deliver a new door to customers who called, but because we were a business and the doors were on back order, they would just send us a whole new unit...which also smells.
We've set up the new unit, and it's been 6 days since we plugged it in (we did wait 24 hrs to plug it in after set-up since it was delivered upside down despite the giant arrows and signs, the manual suggested 6 hours). Our initial wipe down was done with clorox wipes which did seem to help initially but it was not sustained. We put baking soda in it today and plan to wipe down with baking soda and water before we leave...I'll update the post with the results of that cleaning, but I'm less than optimistic.
The sodas we've placed in the cooler still smell. We've still been serving the sodas, but have provided cups and straws so people don't have to go can to mouth. Neither cooler has ever had a spill or anything other than a sealed beverage in it.
I'm looking for opinions on whether this just sounds like a bad manufacturer/unit and we should go with a different brand, or if the whole door thing actually sounds like it may have an effect on the smell.
