Old Freez-King compressor from the 60's - Can it be used with a new refrigerant?

Hi, I have an old American "freez-king" soft serve ice cream making machine sitting in the corner of my workshop. It has not been used in over 30 years. The chain appears to be out of business both the retail and manufacturing arm.

It was made in 1968. I've opened it up out of curiosity and would like to know if the compressor that's in there can be used with a more recent / newer gas.

The dataplate does not list what refrigerant it should take. The compressor data plate shows its a copelametic / copeland compressor. Its model number is KAL2-0150-CAS. Its a 1.5HP 50hz 240v single phase motor. On the side of the compressor housing the code "R6" is engraved along with "B25L". Has there ever been an r6 refrigerant?

If it cannot be reused, how do I go about sizing another compressor suitable for the application of soft serve ice cream. How would it affect the pipework / condenser unit.

This would be purely a side project for my own pleasure/curiosity.

Many Thanks.
