I take care of a bunch of small industrial refrigeration equipment that cools a gas in tanks. R404 compressors. One of them kept breaking a flare fitting at the hot gas line. Probably once a year. I chalked it up to long term vibration until it broke the day after repairing it last time. So I put a brazed valve there instead. Only now one of the employees caught the thing violently shaking so they cut the power and called me. I got there and pressures were equal since it didn’t pump down because they cut power. I started it and of course now it’s violently shaking and slugging. This is a pump down set up so it holds the charge in the receiver on shutdown. There is no accumulator on this particular one. I asked the owner if they may have been shutting the main power on it instead of allowing it to pump down and he said never. Unless they’re having frequent power outages, is there something else I should be looking for?
