So a used reefer container is only about 10k usd or less for a 40 foot, alteast in my country. But an equivalent size walk in is 20-30k usd.
even if you have to swap out the the condenser and evap on the container, you would still be saving money vs a walk-in.
also, reefer containers have that design where the air actually runs under the floor via those slotted grates providing superior air exchange for the evaporator.
granted, if your opening the door 20-30 times a day, it might not be the best option, but for long term cold storage it seems like a better deal.
We want to get a 40ft container and stick it in a shared warehouse, only opening the container a couple times per week to reload our smaller freezers.
i just dont see a downside to purchasing a reefer container, resell price is stable, and the ability to move the container is a huge plus for a growing business that might change locations as it increases in size.
why arent reefer containers used more? they are cheap and readily available. Am i missing somthing?
edit, jeez even just using it for the insulated shell and putting in your own evaporators is still a better deal then building out a walk-in
