Can someone help me source components to build a DIY phase-change refrigerator from scratch?

I am not a mechanical or electrical engineer. I am literally just a hobbyist tinkerer who would like to try to build a very specific refrigerator. I want to build the refrigerator body (box), myself. I will use vacuum insulation panels, solid and expanding foam to insulate the box as much as humanly possible. I had been thinking that I'd just buy some Craigslist/eBay fridge and pull the compressor, evaporator, and all the components out of it, and install it all in my DIY fridge. And I am almost sure that this method would be cheaper, but I would really like to buy the refrigeration components and build my own fridge.

You know how computer nerds like to buy a metal enclosure, a mother board, and build out a 100% custom computer? Is this at all possible with a refrigerator? Is there a website or some other resource where I can buy a "kit"? If anyone can help me with this project, I am happy to discuss compensation for your "consulting" help. This is just a 100% hobby for me. But I take my hobbies very seriously. :-)
