The company I work for is great overall. But there's one area they fall down on. We get sent out to fit electronic controllers. Upgrade PLCs. And we are not given all the correct parameters. I have also had to phone around for passwords. And nobody knows what the passwords are. Then they say to look up the manual online. But the manuals are too general. And you need to know the specific settings for the machine you are working on (environmental chambers).
So time gets wasted on site. We stumble through trying to get things working. And there's barely any time at the end of the day to test the machine out properly.
The customer expects us to be the experts. And it seems unprofessional sometimes. So I am making my own manuals and procedures.
