2nd year apprentice here in Western Canada working for commercial HVAC and Refrigeration company. I've recently been doing projects and installing systems with ORD/ORI valves and was hoping to clear some things up. ORI is essentially just a valve that holds back pressure in the condenser in low ambiant conditions for the purpose of maintaining proper flow of refrigerant from the high to low side. ORD will have a differential pressure set below the ORI to feed refrigerant through at a lower pressure so the evap doesnt starve.
Do I have this right? Am I missing anything?
The part that confuses me is how does holding back a set amount of PSI in the condenser help keep refrigerant moving. I get when a traditional headmaster bleeds hot gas directly into receiver that is how it keeps it moving. Does the ORD allow higher temp refrigerant through just enough to keep the low side from starving and once condensing temp has reached Its the set pressure its released and woosh we got proper flow again?
