I am NOT looking for advice on fixing a residential fridge.
I have read the rules and they say “but if you've got a question related to making something cold feel free to try your luck!” so while I know this forum is for techs I am asking because of that statement in the rules. I hope this is okay.
We have sort of a half way house (I am being vague on purpose so please be respectful) where we have 13 adults and two children living. From Costco in 2019 we bought a Frigidaire fridge and freezer (they are individual units but fit it together with a trim package and we’re sold as one item). Models FGRU19F6QF & FGFU19F6QF
We spent about $4000 plus taxes for these two units (in Canada). They have been nothing but trouble, extended warranty paid for a new compressor and it took four months for the repair while we went without a fridge. And it was a constant headache to deal with the warranty company (Asurian). I wanted to bang my head against the wall.
I used to work many years ago in an office at a commercial refrigeration and I know these home units are garbage.
Now the unit is freezing food again on the top shelf so rather than replace it, I’m wondering because of the number of people we house if we should just buy commercial units. I have a feeling you all will think this is better than the residential stuff.
My concern is the freezer still works, so we will keep that until it craps out. So we just need a fridge for now and I don’t want to end up buying a piece of crap to replace it.
I notice the Costco business warehouse sells commercial coolers - should I consider buying from there? If anyone is curious what they have: https://www.costcobusinesscentre.ca/warehouse-only.html
Would something like the True 651 L (23 cu. ft.) Stainless Steel Commercial Right-handed Reach-in Swing Door Fridge Item 894004 be a decent quality unit? Is it repairable? Worth repairing?
Or is there something else I should be looking at? Considering I’m in Canada.
Mods please note I did read the rules and am trying to abide by them. I apologize if this post is not suitable for here.
