Been battling with a compressor fan that just seems to run either hard or off-balance or something, at higher RPMs when the compressor is running hard the noise level increases.
I've narrowed it down to what I believe to be the plastic fan blade just ever so slightly touching on the edge of the circular fan hole cutout behind the condensor coil (the unit is a one-piece box with the coil in front and a JUST BIG ENOUGH hole for the fan to fit inside of behind the coil, right at the edge of the hole cutout. My theory is the rattle is the fan touching this hole cutout.
I've taken the fan out several times and made sure it's tight. The fan bracket actually has front and back tilt/give in it which I'm not sure is part of the problem but it seems to be built that way to allow the fan some movement. The latest point I've gotten it to is there is just a loud clang/rattle for around 5 seconds every cycle about 20 seconds in, which I assume is at one particular moment where the fan is at the exact speed where it tilts enough to rub against the coil box hole cutout edge.
Not sure if anyone has seen this type before, including some diagrams and photos here.
Photo 1 really shows the coil box I have (label #2)https://ibb.co/gZR5qJz
Photo 2 shows the bracket type on the fan (label #5). My fan also looks like Label #7 in this photo, not like the fan in Photo 1.https://ibb.co/7tDSWsH
Photo 3 is a photo of the fan out and laying on top of the box.https://ibb.co/Jz3Cdch
There's not really any adjustment choice for the location of these things, they go where they go, so I'm sort of at a loss on what to possibly do to eliminate the noise. Would love any advice from anyone who has battled with fan rattling against a coil box before. Thanks.
