I got the big daddy bacarach pmg ir detector, but I'm wondering if there are any situations where an ultrasonic might be better. Reason I ask is, I have a leak on a rack that I simply cannot find. I got thrown into this store last week that has had contractors going to for literally months. They are putting like 150 pounds of 404 in it a month. No one has been able to find the leak. So now my boss and I have to try and tackle it. We've climbed all over walk ins. We've checked in pits. We've checked behind walls. We've pulled the foam out from between the pipes and the penetration to the outdoors. We have also pressurized the lines with discharge pressure. We have not found a single ppm. At this point all I can think to do before just cutting individual lines loose and putting nitro into them is jacking the head pressure up and putting like 250 lbs of discharge into one circuit at a time. I was only going up to 100 on the first go. That or maybe trying a different detector. So has anyone ever used ultra sonic with any luck? I can't imagine it's better than the PMG but maybe the insulation on the lines is trapping the gas and defusing it? I haven't found any oil anywhere though and I'm starting to lose my mind only after a couple of days of looking. This store has had probably 3 or 4 other techs scour over it prior to me. I'm almost wondering if someone is letting gas out while we aren't there. Either that or it was underfilled maybe? They blew a vibrasorb this year but no one documented when it happened or how much refrigerant they added at the time. I'm grasping at straws here.
