Any insights regarding the use of desuperheaters in transcritical refrigeration systems?

There's plenty of info in HVAC; not so much with refrigeration.

I know that they cool the superheated refrigerant until the saturation temperature.

Any papers recommended on the subject?

Are they basically just gas coolers after the LT compression?

I understand that they reduce the energy consumption, but how can that be observed in a pressure-enthalpy diagram?
