Wednesday I got a call for a freezer not cooling. I get there and compressor is very hot almost untouchable. I find a very dirty condenser coil and two bad relays. I clean the coils. I check the windings for the compressor, 1ohm, 3ohm, & 4ohm, nothing grounded. Checked the overload switch, closed. Checked the high pressure switch, closed. Checked the caps, both pretty much exactly where they should in mfds(23.5 & 410). I jumped out the compressor and relays and ran just the fan for a bit, no problem. I changed the start relay but didnt have the other relay on hand so i just threw in a solid state contactor and used a single pole until the other one got in today. I came back yesterday when the compressor cooled down and tried to turn it on. Ran for maybe 30 seconds and shut off again. I pulled the start relay back out and sure enough I could hear the insides shaking. I called the compressor being dead when I first got there on wednesday with how hot it got but i had hope, now I am almost pretty positive it is the compressor. Is there any other checks I should be running? Or anything else I should be looking for before replacing the compressor?
